Here is a good way to think about your body: imagine your body is like your front yard.
Have you ever seen those beautiful manicured lawns? They're all cut at the same height, and their grass is really green. The lawn edges are straight and clean, and there are no empty patches or weeds.
Then there are the other yards that are the exact opposite, mostly because it takes knowledge and work to get that beautiful yard.
To have that beautiful yard, you must realize some key factors:
- You need a good lawnmower, because it addresses the whole yard as a system.
- Then you need SPECIFIC TOOLS to manicure the yard, like a weed-wacker. A weed-wacker hits specific areas that the mower can not get to.
- Most importantly, you need to fertilize the yard properly. Fertilizer works internally and keeps the underlying system strong.
Let's bring this yard metaphor back to the body. So many people believe--out of their lack of knowledge--that they can take care of their whole yard, or body, with a specific tool. Many people latch on to using one specific technique, like the metaphorical weed-wacker, to treat every single issue. The problem is this: they are not realizing that they are not getting everything using one technique--in fact, they are making their "yard" uneven and patchy. Also, many people never watch their nutrition, or "fertilize" properly, and this is the silent help we all need to stay strong.
As a Functional Neromuscular Specialist, I see this behavior a lot. For example, a client will ask me to work on one area using one specific tool--let's say deep tissue or trigger-point--and not realize that they are forgetting about the rest of the "yard." The rest of your body plays a big part in the real reason why that specific area is giving you pain.
So are you or have you been using a weed-wacker to mow your yard?
Now, there are times you can just weed-wack, to maintain an already manicured lawn. Just always have in the back of your mind that you must address the whole system, too. In general though, you should use specific tools to manicure and get to the areas the mower can not. And remember to fertilize--without that, you will always have some trouble.
Wow this is a different way to look at the body thank you
